Florida closing a business still needs final tax returns
Closing or pausing a Florida business requires the Revenue account update, final returns and tax, plus separate entity and federal closure work.
Closing a Florida business takes more than turning off the lights or changing the Sunbiz record.
Florida Revenue uses one form to pause, restart, or cancel a tax account. A pause fits a business that may start again. Cancellation fits a business with no future work or no more workers.
The final return is still required. File it and pay any tax within 15 days after the pause or closing date. The return covers the time since the last one. Changing the account status does not erase that last period.
The Revenue form does not close a company on Sunbiz. It also does not cancel local permits or finish the federal work. Use those paths on their own.
Before closing the folder, check every tax account and permit. Keep the account number, final sales and pay records, closing date, payment proof, last returns, and each closure receipt. The work is done when every open item has an end on record.
