Florida driver exam language change belongs before test day
Florida announced that driver license knowledge and skills exams would move to English-only testing in 2026, so test-day language planning should start early.
Florida now gives driver knowledge and road tests only in English. The rule covers every license class and also covers oral exams.
FLHSMV announced the change on January 30, 2026. It took effect on February 6, 2026. A person may no longer use a translator during either test. The state also stopped using printed tests in other languages.
Older study pages and family experience may describe the former choices. Use the current Florida handbook and exam page. Then confirm the visit with the office or approved test provider.
If English is not the driver’s strongest language, begin study early. Practice both the road rules and the spoken directions used during a road test. General study help can still be useful before test day. It does not change the English-only rule during the exam itself.
Put the language rule in the plan before test week. That leaves time to study instead of meeting a surprise at the counter.
